Daniela’s work accepted to WMIC 2024
Daniela's submission on Miniaturized RF microcoil design for interstitial EPR oxygen measurement has been accepted to the World Molecular Imaging Congress 2024 in Quebec! Congratulations Daniela!
Professor Aydogan to give invited talk at AAPM
Professor Aydogan will be giving an invited talked titled "PET Imaging for RT – What Should I Know?" in the session "TU-130-502A - Everything You Want to Know about Imaging in Radiation Therapy but Hesitate to Ask" on Tuesday July 23rd. See you there!
Aydogan lab at AAPM 2024
Looking forward to AAPM in LA. Come see some of our work!
Research Interests
Intensity Modulated Total Marrow Irradiation
We pioneered the first linac based intensity modulated total marrow irradiation (IMTMI) and demonstrated outcome benefits through clinical trials. We have recently published results of our last Phase I study which sought to prospectively determine the role of TMI in advanced AML patients who are receiving second or higher transplant. This study demonstrated that adding TMI to standard of care has the ability to substantially improve both 2 years OS (50%) and PSF (48%) compared to our historical outcome data of 23% and 18%, respectively. To date, we have treated over 150 patients, which is the largest patient cohort treated with this technique.
Adaptive Radiation Therapy
The lab is developing advanced adaptive workflows for oligometastatic patients for rapid, on-table plan development.
Small Animal IMRT
Our work has developed techniques for developing IMRT treatment plans for small animals, developing models of compensators to achieve the necessary fluence modulation suitable for rapid fabrication with 3D printing using metal loaded plastics. This cutting edge approach enables a range of preclinical studies, of which our group has a specific interest in personalized radiation therapy plans developed using functional imaging to address local variations in tumor physiology and microenvironment, see our other work on oxygen guided radiation therapy.
Theragnostic Nanotechnology
We are developing and optimizing theranostic PSMA-targeted gold nanoparticle that act as a MR contrast agent as well as a radio-sensitizer. With collaborators we are designing, synthesizing, characterizing and optimizing the utility of the particles in vitro and then utilize them for MR-guided radiotherapy in mice. These studies will lay the groundwork for this technology to be used for other cancers that express PSMA
Oxygen Guided Radiation Therapy
Oxygen Guided Radiation Therapy Guiding radiation therapy based on local tissue oxygen measurements is critically important as hypoxia (low oxygen) in the tumor microenvironment has been shown to be a strong indicator of increased cancer progression and tumor...
